Unlocking success: the positive impact of the United Curriculum at Hunningley Primary Academy

Catgeories : News

The United Curriculum has been designed to not only meet the national requirements but to also enhance the teaching and learning experience for both students and educators. Recently we spoke to Kirsty Hughes, a teacher at Hunningley Primary Academy, who shared her insights into how the United Curriculum has positively transformed their school.

Sharing her perspective on the impact of the United Curriculum at Hunningley Primary Academy, Kirsty said:

"We use the entirety of the United Curriculum for all subjects from EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) up to Year 6. It has improved the overall quality of teaching, especially in the wider subjects. We now teach a broader and more balanced curriculum to a higher standard, leading to increased knowledge and retention among students."

An important part of any school’s standard procedure is achieving a positive rating by Ofsted. Kirsty highlighted the positive impact of the United Curriculum on their Ofsted review, stating: "The United Curriculum impressed Ofsted with its well-sequenced and matched substantive and disciplinary knowledge. Students demonstrated the ability to recall subjects studied and make connections across different time periods and concepts.” During the report, Ofsted also commented that the curriculum managed teacher workload effectively by providing subject knowledge packs to upskill teachers, and enabled them to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of students and incorporate local history studies."

Discussing the strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the United Curriculum, Kirsty said: "The mastery approach in the curriculum allows all children, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, to keep up with the curriculum. It also ensures representation and diversity by featuring different ethnicities in Art and Geography, allowing students to see themselves positively reflected in the curriculum."

Hunningley Primary Academy has witnessed tangible improvements in student outcomes and Kirsty believes this is due to the United Curriculum. She said: "The resources provided by the United Curriculum have contributed to better teaching and learning outcomes, removing barriers to ensure all students can access it.” In terms of day-to-day teaching practices, the United Curriculum has proven to be highly effective and usable for Kirsty and her colleagues also. She went on to say: "The United Curriculum has had a massive impact on reducing workload as all the necessary resources are provided. It is highly usable, allowing the school to make adjustments to meet the needs of students while maintaining a consistent approach. The curriculum has positively influenced teaching practices and made a significant difference in the day-to-day teaching experience.”

It is clear to see the fantastic impact that the United Curriculum has had and continues to have on the teaching and learning landscape at Hunningley Primary Academy.

At United Learning, we remain committed to continually improving and refining our curriculum to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of schools and students. By listening to the valuable feedback and experiences of educators like Kirsty, we strive to create a curriculum that truly empowers both teachers and learners, setting them on a path toward a successful future.
