Writing in the Wider Curriculum

Catgeories :

“Literacy is foundational for success in school and later life. Students who cannot read, write and communicate effectively are highly unlikely to access the challenging academic curriculum in school and more likely to have poor educational outcomes across all subjects.”

Rickets, J., Sperring, R and Nation, K. (2014). Educational attainment in poor comprehenders. Frontiers in Psychology, 5. P. 445

Improving writing is a priority in many schools, and we’re excited to strengthen the opportunities for practising writing in the wider curriculum.

In Science, History, Geography and Religion & Worldviews, you’ll now find at least one opportunity for extended writing per term in each year group.

Watch this video to find out more.

If you subscribe to the United Curriculum already, you’ll find everything you need -  including resources to support teachers, answers to FAQs and a summary of the opportunities – in the Whole School section of the website, here.
